THE PARADISE WHERE LIFE BEGAN
Beneath the ancient skies of the Cradle of Humankind, time is not measured by the ticking of a clock but by the gentle sway of grass in the breeze and the eternal rhythms of the earth. This is a place where the story of all stories began; where life’s first bold footsteps were etched into the soil, and where echoes of three million years still hum softly in the caves and valleys.
To walk here is to feel the weight of history in every step and to sense the profound stillness of a place that remembers the dawn of humanity. It’s as though the earth, in all its wisdom, holds its breath, waiting for us to pause and listen. In the Cradle, life slows not out of necessity but out of reverence – for the land, for its stories, and for the reminder that we are part of something vast and enduring.
A DREAM, GROWN FROM THE SOIL
Cabin Collective began as a seed of an idea, planted during one of Dewald Scholtz and family friend Pieter Venter’s long conversations about the importance of living simply and sustainably. For Dewald, the land itself was always the starting point – a farm that his father, Leon, tended with a gardener’s heart and an artist’s eye.
Leon, a celebrated horticulturist, saw not just soil but potential. His connection to nature went beyond a profession; it was a way of being, one that shaped the Scholtz family’s relationship with the world around them. Today, Dewald and Michelle carry that legacy forward, raising their children here amidst the rhythms of the farm, teaching them to listen to the language of the earth, and to honour its quiet, enduring wisdom.

WELCOME TO LIFE IN THE SKEERPOORT VALLEY
Life on the farm is both picturesque and profoundly real. Here, the Scholtz family’s weekends are spent on the cabin decks – the very same ones you’ll stand on – enjoying long lunches with friends, laughing over shared meals, and soaking in the views of the Skeerpoort River winding its way through the valley. For Michelle and Dewald, it doesn’t get more personal than this. Hosting guests here feels like opening the doors to their home, offering a window into a life shaped by simplicity and authenticity.
These moments aren’t crafted for show; they’re how the Scholtz family lives, and it’s how they hope you’ll experience the land too. This place is where their children grow up swimming in the river, helping their grandad pot plants in the greenhouse, and watching the changing seasons turn fields into canvases of colour. It’s where traditions are passed down, and new ones are made — a reminder of the richness that comes from being connected to a place and its stories.

LET US WELCOME YOU
A visit to Cabin Collective is about reconnecting — with the land, with yourself, and with the people you share the experience with. Michelle and Dewald want every guest to feel what they feel here: a sense of belonging, of ease, of being reminded of what truly matters.
So, consider this an invitation. Come sit at the table, walk the trails, and watch the sun dip behind the mountains. Take home not just memories, but a little of what this place gives so freely: perspective, peace, and a reminder of life’s simple joys.
We’ll have the hot tub warmed and the views waiting just for you.
